Our Responsibilities

Health and Wellbeing

There are lots of stresses and strains on people that work in hospitality. The highs are high but sometimes the lows are low, so we are very aware that we need to look after the wellbeing of each other.

We have a ‘Wellbeing Ambassador’ in each of our pubs. They are the first port of call for any of the crew to approach if they need a hand with a situation, whether that be practical help, a chat or pointing people in the direction of professional help.

They also do a whole host of other things like organise crew recognition, get togethers (which can be anything from Yoga sessions, walks, rounders matches, team breakfasts, nights out etc), making sure everyone is aware of what’s on offer for them, knowing the latest news, simple things like recognising birthdays and making sure the crew facilities in the pub are always the best they can be. Basically, making sure everyone is always looked after.

If a crew member does need help there is a whole network available to them. A 24-hour-helpline, online wellbeing advice that includes health checks, online fitness videos, financial advice, breathing exercises, self-help guides, webinars, counselling sessions – hopefully we can help to make any situation better.

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors also work with the Burnt Chef Project, a registered global non-profit social enterprise dedicated to stamping out mental health stigma within the hospitality industry through education and awareness and providing support to those who may be struggling with their wellbeing. They receive training from them and it’s one of the professional agencies that we call upon for help if we need to.

Our customers health and wellbeing is also important to us, so we ensure that we offer lighter options on our menus and include plenty of fresh vegetables within our dishes. Calory information for each dish is also available for customers to view so that they can make an informed choice. Each of our pubs also offer plenty of no and low alcohol drink options.

We offer a clear training pathway for anyone wanting to further their education or make a career for themselves in hospitality. There are Apprenticeships available for both front of house and back of house roles. For our kitchen crew we offer the Level 2 Commis Chef, Level 3 Chef de Partie and Level 4 Senior Culinary Chef Apprenticeships.

For our aspiring Assistant and Deputy Managers we have created the Brunning & Price Management Development Programme which encompasses either the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor or Level 4 Hospitality Manager Apprenticeships. Of course, completing an Apprenticeship isn’t for everyone, so we have put together development plans for each role to help them progress to the next step.

For our more senior managers, both front of house and in the kitchen, we provide the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills through various face to face courses, including Insights Discovery, situational leadership, coaching and delegation to name just a few. As well as the opportunity for our senior chefs to take part in the industry award-winning Chefs Advanced Leadership Skills course.

We also enrol candidates on WSET (Wine, Spirits Education Trust) courses to further their knowledge in wines and spirits (obviously), cellar management, coffee skills and chef workshops working with a variety of produce.

Any tips that our lovely customers leave are paid using a tronc system which is a HMRC approved method of handling any non-cash tips and gratuities. If a customer chooses to pay a cash tip, these are placed in the collective pot and are shared fairly to those they were intended for.

Brunning and Price sits within ‘The Restaurant Group’ who also owns Wagamama and many Restaurants and Bars in Airports and Train stations. Our crew members receive a discount if they’d like to visit any of them – a lovely little perk of the job! They also receive free B&P food whilst they are on shift in our pubs too.

They also have access to a whole host of other discounts that are available across lots of high street brands, holiday companies and leisure activities, and have access to our Cycle to Work Scheme, which is great for health and wellbeing (more information on this in the ‘Sustainability’ section).
